Snowboarding

Moniteur ESF en snowboard

If you're looking for some new thrills and something involving a different balance, try snowboarding.
Since the early 1980s, when the snowboard first appeared on our pistes, the number of snowboarding enthusiasts has been growing continually. There are several forms of snowboarding: freestyle, freeriding and more... In 1998 snowboarding became an Olympic discipline, thereby finally earning its place as a winter sports activity.

Freeride

small jump

If you're looking for new thrills in unspoilt countryside and are keen to push beyond your own limits, check out freeriding, in complete safety, without taking risks.
Today, freeriding - on a snowboard or on skis - seems to be the latest winter sports trend. Freeriding is skiing or snowboarding outside the marked and prepared pistes. Whether playing with the lie of the terrain or having fun in the powder snow, it's a great way of enjoying the snow. But be careful, freeriding involves careful planning. Not only avalanches, but also crevasses and rocky outcrops are natural features that can have serious consequences, so you should always remember to follow the off-piste safety rules.

Freestyle

trick

If you're daring and just love that adrenaline kick, try freestyle and personalise your style.
Freestyle is a discipline that combines the basics of snowsports with those of acrobatics and involves completing a series of aerial tricks on a snowboard or skis.
The tricks must be as original as possible, and this is a great spectator sport that is attracting more and more freestylers.
A number of snowparks have been built especially for freestylers. There are various disciplines, such as big air and slope style, but it is the halfpipe which is the most famous because it is an Olympic discipline.

Télémark

telemark lessons

If you feel nostalgic for this stylish method or are attracted by its the elegant look, try telemark.
Telemark is one of the oldest skiing techniques around. The skiing style is a kind of dancing movement in which the skier's heels are free and one knee is bent on each turn as the skier descends. At the moment telemark is enjoying something of a boom, so if you see a graceful, elegant skier on the pistes, you can be sure it is a telemarker!
